So what next.... and why the wait?

I arrived home from Nashville just over 5 weeks ago now and as of yet, I've not posted what I'm doing next so I thought I should do a little update.

The whole recording process went so much better than I ever thought it would. We got 10 songs done for the album and they all sound so big and full and the glitter we sprinkled on may have been expensive, but it was worth every penny. This by a long stretch will be the greatest thing I've ever released, and I think that's like to be sometime in October/November, but I'm not sure yet.

I also recorded three live tracks out there, two in Welcome To 1979 and one at Third Man Records. These will be release over the coming months, but I'm not sure when yet.

I'm not sure yet? Why not you ask... Well a few reasons.

1. I've been carrying a pain in my groin around for a couple of years, and it seems to have got worse and spread to my hips, so I'm currently in the process of just getting that diagnosed and some kind of plan in place to repair me. I'm sure it's nothing serious, I think I just tore a muscle and it's never really healed, but I'm no doctor, so we'll soon see. I'm going for a scan soon, so that will tell all I hope. There's a chance it could be a hernia, which will required an operation, so this is why I haven't started planning any tours, because until I know when this might happen, and how long it will take for me to be 100% again, I don't want to book any tours. Once I've got a date, or an indication that I won't need surgery I can start planning, and that will include planning when the album will be released etc.

2. It's really good. I know that's something I'm kind of duty bound to say, but it's so much better than what I've done before, that I want to spend some time with it and talk to people in the industry to find out what the best way of releasing it is to maximise the impact of the release. Whilst making it, the people around who were hearing it come together who have worked in the industry at a variety of levels over many years were all getting excited about it and what it could do. This is a new thing for me, so I feel like I have to follow this up. This might involve a label or a distributer and this is a world I've never worked in before, so I don't know how these things work, whether they're right for me, and crucially, how long it takes to get these things together. Also, I can't start contact people about these things until I've got all the first draft of mixes, which are currently being done by Dean. I should have these in the next couple of weeks, so that's good news.

3. There's a part of me that feels I need to get myself a couple of decent support tours lined up to try and help me build my audience before I get the album out. Or at least try and get them in the diary for shortly after the album is due out, but again, see point 1.

So that's what's going on with me. I hope that I know what I'm doing soon, as it's frustrating having all of these great new songs and not having played them to anyone yet.

Speak soon!

Dave
